Italian entrepreneur to cooperate with Armenia in infrastructure construction

Lucigi Bonandini, an Italian entrepreneur, director of B&P Merchant Bank Per le Imprese, told Armenian Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technologies Hakob Arshakyan on April 3 in Yerevan that he intends to start long-term cooperation with Armenia in the field of infrastructure construction. According to the press service of the ministry, Bonandini owns shares in about 400 Italian companies.
YEREVAN, April 4. /ARKA/. Lucigi Bonandini, an Italian entrepreneur, director of B&P Merchant Bank Per le Imprese, told Armenian Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technologies Hakob Arshakyan on April 3 in Yerevan that he intends to start long-term cooperation with Armenia in the field of infrastructure construction. According to the press service of the ministry, Bonandini owns shares in about 400 Italian companies.
One of these companies specializes in building roads, bridges, tunnels and airports. Arshakyan was said to have spoken about many large projects being currently implemented in Armenia that may interest Italian companies.
The minister emphasized the construction of the North-South road corridor, presenting its regional importance. He, in particular, stressed the importance of the Sisian-Kajaran section, which is being built as part of tranche 4, and presented a number of details regarding the construction process. During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of issues regarding further cooperation.
An agreement was reached on the organization of bilateral professional discussions after the submission of relevant documents and information about the project. Welcoming the interest of the Italian partners in the Armenian market, Arshakyan stressed that the ministry is open for discussion.
The aim of construction of the 556 km-long North-South Transport Corridor is to upgrade Armenia’s main transportation link as part of a broader thrust to improve connectivity, and boost trade, growth and livelihood opportunities in the Caucasus and Central Asia sub-regions.
The transport corridor will stretch from the southern Armenian town of Meghri, on the border with Iran, to Bavra in the north on the border with Georgia. The North-South transport corridor will enable Armenia to mitigate the effects of the blockade imposed by Azerbaijan and Turkey. --0----
