YEREVAN, October 19 /ARKA/. Local self-governments in Armenian communities will be allowed to lease unused privatized arable land, Acting Deputy Minister of Agriculture Garnik Petrosyan told reporters on Friday. According to him, today about 50% of arable land in the country are not used, and the rest is used ineffectively.
“Of the unused 50% of land, almost 90% are privatized, and the owners have either been absent from the country for decades, or simply unknown because of lack of cadastral information,” said Petrosyan.
He noted that in some regions there are people wishing to use these arable lands, but due to the lack of owners, there is a problem with their legal registration.
"This issue needs legislative regulation, and we are considering the possibility of giving local authorities the right to lease such land until owners appear," said Petrosyan.
Speaking about other reasons for the low level of arable land use, Petrosyan said that land plots are not used due to low profitability and the lack or irrigation water. In this regard, he pointed out the need to implement measures to increase farmers' incomes, and implement serious reforms in the irrigation system.
He said the government has launched a pilot program to provide targeted assistance to farmers in 37 border and socially disadvantaged communities, where one-time assistance of 60 thousand drams will be provided for winter crops sowing. ($ 1 - 483.48 drams). -0-
