Minister promises inquiry into reports that Turkish tomatoes are being sold as locally produced

The Armenian ministry of economy is looking into media reports claiming that a huge batch of tomatoes imported from Turkey are being sold in the country as domestically grown, thus damaging local farmers, economy minister Artsvik Minasyan said today.

YEREVAN, May 18. /ARKA/. The Armenian ministry of economy is looking into media reports claiming that a huge batch of tomatoes imported from Turkey are being sold in the country as domestically grown, thus damaging local farmers, economy minister Artsvik Minasyan said today.
"We are collecting all the related information, and have already received necessary information from the State Revenue Committee. This information is being now examined. In the near future we will summarize it and present the results," Minasyan said.
According to him, no large batches of tomatoes were brought to Armenia from Turkey in recent days.
According to the ministry of agriculture of Armenia, some 16 tons of cucumbers and 23 tons of tomatoes have been imported to the country this year. During the same period last year, imports of cucumbers amounted to 38 tons and that of tomatoes to one ton. -0-

According to him, no large batches of tomatoes were brought to Armenia from Turkey in recent days.
