YEREVAN, September 26. /ARKA/. Armenia’s minister of transport, communications and information technology Vahan Martirosyan urged today his country fellows to travel only by buses operated by regular passenger transportation companies.
Speaking at a news conference the minister noted that regular companies undergo technical inspection, have three drivers for a bus with a clearly determined work schedule. The drivers pass medical examination before driving. These buses are equipped with digital tachographs, which monitor the situation. He said regular buses may also get into accidents, but the level of their safety is much higher.
The minister noted that it is easy to tell a regular company from irregular one –tickets for regular buses are sold only at bus terminals and buses depart from and arrive at terminals. He said if an irregular company is detected the first penalty is 450,000 drams, and in case of repeated violation, it is 900,000 drams.
"Perhaps we will take more stringent measures, including the transportation ban, for this we need to develop a number of measures, in particular, an electronic system is introduced to track irregular companies," Martirosyan said.
Over the past year, several accidents with passenger buses headed to Armenia were registered. As a result some of passengers were killed and many were injured. All were irregular passenger carriers. --0--
