YEREVAN, November 25. /ARKA/. The Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia decided Friday to down the natural gas prices for consumers. The decision comes into force on January 1, 2017.
Entities consuming less than 10,000 cubic meters of natural gas a month will pay AMD 139,000 per every 1,000 cubic meters (VAT included) instead of the present AMD 146,700, and for all those using more than 10,000 cubic meters the price is set at AMD 242.1 conditional units (the price is calculated by multiplying the conditional unit by the USD – AMD average exchange rate) instead of the current 257.56 conditional units.
The socially unsecured families consuming no less than 6,000 cubic meters of natural gas a year, the fuel price is set at AMD 100,000 per 1,000 cubic meters (VAT included), and those consuming more than 600 cubic meters will pay AMD 139,000 for every 1,000 cubic meters (VAT included).
From November 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017, greenhouses consuming less than 10,000 cubic meters monthly will pay $212 for every 1,000 cubic meters (VAT included), and those consuming more than 10,000 cubic meters will pay 242.1 conventional units.
The entities engaged in processing of agricultural products and canning and producing drinks and dairy products will pay 212 conditional units.
Hrant Tadevosyan, Gazprom-Armenia CJSC CEO, told journalists that Armenian gas consumers will save AMD 13.4 billion.
Asked by journalists why the company didn’t lower the prices before, Tadevosyan said that they tried to do this also in the past, but now an opportunity emerged to compensate the company’s earning by the downed price for transit through Georgia’s territory.
“Besides, we have a number of other measures,” he said. “The managers of Gazprom-Armenia were always trying to spur increase in gas consumption, and we noticed that decrease in prices will bring the company extra earning, since consumption will grow.”
