YEREVAN, October 2. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed October 1 a wide range of bilateral issues, including the price of natural gas that Russia ships to Armenia, Pashinyan's press secretary Vladimir Karapetyan told Novosti Armenia news agency.

The Russian leader arrived in Armenia on October 1 to attend a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. As part of his visit, he had a face-to-face meeting with the head of the Armenian government,

Karapetyan said Pashinyan and Putin confirmed their commitment to the development of strategic partnership between the two countries and the full use of the available potential. Karapetyan said both leaders emphasized also the need to intensify economic cooperation.

Commenting on Putin’s invitation of Pashinyan to pay an official visit to Russia, Karapetyan said that the relevant departments have already been ordered to carry out preparatory work.

Armenian mass media were  rife with stories claiming that Russia plans to increase the price of natural gas for Armenia by 30% starting next year. They, however, would say that a lot will depend on negotiations between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who were expected to converge on the sidelines of a Eurasian Economic Union's summit, slated for October 1 in Yerevan.

On December 31, 2018 Russia's Gazprom raised the price of natural gas it ships to Armenia across Georgia from $150 per one thousand cubic meters to $165. In 2018, Gazprom supplied 1.94 billion cubic meters of gas to Armenia.

Although the Russian natural gas is delivered to Armenia by Gazprom at a $165 per one thousand cubic meters, Gazprom’s Armenian subsidiary - Gazprom Armenia - sells it to the bulk of Armenian households at almost $300. Gazprom Armenia also deals with the storage, distribution and sale of gas. -0--
