PM: South Caucasus Railways’ projects contribute to development of railway transport

Armenia’s Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received today  the Vice-President of the Russian Railways state-run company Andrei Starkov and CEO of the South-Caucasus Railway (SCR) Sergei Valko, the press service of the Armenian government said.

YEREVAN, October 12. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received today  the Vice-President of the Russian Railways state-run company Andrei Starkov and CEO of the South-Caucasus Railway (SCR) Sergei Valko, the press service of the Armenian government said.

Commending the activity of SCR in Armenia, the prime minister said the programs implemented by the company contribute to the development of rail transport. He said the Armenian government is interested in the successful operation of all companies working in Armenia and is ready to step up efforts to enhance cooperation.

On behalf of the Russian Railways Starkov congratulated Karapetyan on taking office and wished him effective work. He spoke about the performance of SCR and its development programs. The sides were said to have discussed prospects for deepening of cooperation and SCR’s further activities.

The sides exchanged also views on the development and modernization of transport infrastructure, increasing passenger and freight traffic, improving the quality and efficiency of services, as well as on other issues of mutual interest. 

The South Caucasus Railways is run by Russian Railways. The concessional agreement was concluded in 2008 for 30 years, with a right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years of operation. -0-
