Price hikes expected in Armenia in January 2018
YEREVAN, November 28. /ARKA/. Prices for first order consumer products will start going up in January 2018, Zhamanak (Time) reports.

The price hikes will mainly due to the enforcement of the new customs code of the Eurasian Economic Union.

This means that customs duties for goods from countries that are not the union members will be increased.

Daniel Ioannisyan, head of the Union of Informed Citizens, said the Eurasian Economic Union’s customs duties differ from those of Armenia by 76% and run counter to the country’s interests.

Ioannisyan said that After Armenia joined the Eurasian Economic Union duties for more than 1,700 varieties of goods went down, while for 6,300 others they went up.

In the next few years custom duties for 800 varieties of goods will be increased.

The newspaper analysts say prices will driven up also by Armenia’s new tax code, which comes into force on January 1.

In this case, excise taxes for petrol and compressed gas will rise. Excise tax for petrol will leap from 25,000 drams to 40,000 drams. --0----
