YEREVAN, February 7. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan urged today the country’s aviation authorities to expand the geography of flights and attract low-cost airlines as he met with top officials of the Main Civil Aviation Department.
The government press office quoted the head of the Main Civil Aviation Department Sergey Avetisyan as saying that on December 7, last year the "Free Route Airspace" concept had been introduced.
Avetisyan also said that the process of granting permits to local and foreign airlines for operating flights from and to Armenia has been simplified and modernized. In particular, the lists of documents required earlier and the terms for granting permits have been cut, and the "one-stop-window» principle was introduced.
Avetisyan also spoke about the introduction of an electronic filing system in order to improve the business environment and simplify procedures. New airlines are offered a flexible tariff policy by the Yerevan international airport "Zvartnots."
Karapetyan, in turn, noted that the aviation authorities need to understand what their weak points are and what needs to be done to further increase passenger traffic.
"The number one task is the expansion of the geography of flights. Secondly, we must evaluate the steps that we can take to attract low-cost airlines," Karen Karapetyan said.
