Armenian authorities and Russian Gazprom are negotiating a long-term program of capital investments worth $500 million in Armenia’s natural gas transportation system until 2030, the chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) Garegin Baghramyan told reporters on Saturday.
YEREVAN, January 20. /ARKA/.
On November 19 last year, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that the cost of Russian gas for Armenia’s households and corporate consumers would not increase until at least the spring of 2020.
At the same time, Baghramyan did not rule out that Gazprom Armenia, owned by Russia’s Gazprom giant, may ask PSRC to allow it to raise the price of gas.
In January 2019, Gazprom raised its wholesale price for Armenia from $150 to $165 per thousand cubic meters, however, the price for households and corporate consumers did not change. Armenian government said that the gas operator should offset the new losses through cost-cutting. In 2018, Gazprom supplied 1.94 billion cubic meters of gas to Armenia.
Although the Russian natural gas is delivered to Armenia by Gazprom at a $165 per one thousand cubic meters, Gazprom’s Armenian subsidiary - Gazprom Armenia - sells it to the bulk of Armenian households at almost $300. Gazprom Armenia also deals with the storage, distribution and sale of gas. -0-
