Russia’s agricultural-goods watchdog bans imports of Armenian tomatoes and peppers
YEREVAN, December 9. /ARKA/. Russia’s agricultural-goods watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, has banned imports of  tomatoes and peppers  from the Armenian province of Armavir because of being infected with pepino mosaic virus, TASS, reported.

It said the ban comes into force on December 14, 2020. According to Rosselkhoznadzor,  the ban aims to  prevent the import of pepino mosaic virus and its spread in the Russian Federation. Rosselkhoznadzor said the vegetables had phytosanitary certificates issued by the National Plant Protection Organization of Armenia.

Rosselkhoznadzor said on October 30, 2020, it had negotiations with Armenian authorities asking them to strengthen control over vegetables supplied to Russia, as well as provide information on the results of the investigation and the phytosanitary measures taken.

However, Armenian authorities failed to meet the deadline, 'which may indicate the unavailability of the Armenian phytosanitary control system to ensure the import of products free of the pepino mosaic virus into Russia.'
Earlier today, Rosselkhoznadzor banned imports of tomatoes and apples from Azerbaijan. -0-
