YEREVAN, August 11. /ARKA/. Armenia will only take advantage of Russia’s growing role in the region, Serzh Sargsyan, Armenian president, said Wednesday at a joint news conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In his words, people in Armenia were keeping watch on the Russian’ president’s intensive political contacts last week, since Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkey are neighboring countries.
Sargsyan thanked Putin ‘for information about these meetings and expressed hope that Armenia will take advantage of the increase of Russia’s role in our region’.
In his words, he and his Russian counterpart praised the success achieved in trade turnover between the two countries.
“This is a direct answer to those skeptics who said that membership in the Eurasian Economic Union will give no advantages to Armenia,” he said.
“I should say that despite all international obstacles our trade turnover has grown considerable and Armenia’s exports to Russia have grown about 90 percent over the first six months of this year hitting the record year-on-year growth. I am convinced that we will manage to maintain and build up this pace, since trade and economic ties between our countries even today are not used to their full extent.”
Sarsgsyan expressed his deepest appreciation of Russia’s role in the region, ‘where many processes impacting stability and security are running simultaneously’. --0---
