SCR ready to double purchase of locally manufactured goods and services
YEREVAN, MAY 24, /arka/. The South Caucasus Railways (SCR), a subsidiary of state-owned Russian Railways, operating Armenia’s rail roads, is ready to purchase 4 billion drams worth products manufactured by local companies, SCR CEO, Viktor Rebets said today.
He said last year the company bought over 2 billion drams worth locally manufactured products and services and is ready to double the amount this year.
"We are ready to sign new contracts. Naturally, we will buy only high quality products because we realize the degree of our responsibility for ensuring safe operation of trains," he said.
He emphasized that this way the company seeks to act as additional motivator for many local manufacturers to produce high quality products. At present SCR cooperates with 25 Armenian companies. He said also the company will announce a tender for supply of special and protective uniforms for the personnel and only local companies will be asked to take part.
The South Caucasus Railways is run by Russian Railways. The concessional agreement was concluded in 2008 for 30 years, with a right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years of operation. ($1 – 401.59 drams) -0-
