YEREVAN, July 21. /ARKA/. Seven new solar power plants will be commissioned in Armenia before the end of this year, the ministry of energy infrastructures and natural resources reported on Thursday.

In recent days, seven companies received licenses from the Public Services Regulatory Committee to generate electric energy via solar plants.

The plants are planned to be built in Aragatsotn, Kotayk, Gegharkunik and Ararat provinces.

The licenses will be valid until 2036.

In total, the Public Services Regulatory Committee has provided 11 licenses for construction of up-to one-megawatt solar plants.

The launch of the new solar plants will mark the completion of the first round of the program that implies construction of plants of the total capacity of 10 megawatt.

In summer 2015, a $58-million investment program was launched in Armenia to develop renewable energy.

The program has been designed Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund with support from the Climate Investment Funds, the Armenian ministry of energy infrastructures and natural resources, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank for five to six years.

The key round of the program will begin in 2017. --0---
