Shadow economic activity among large Armenian taxpayers cut by 15 percent – SRC says

The so-called shadow economic activity among Armenia’s large taxpayers has been cut by more than 15% in the first quarter of the year, the head of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) Vardan Harutyunyan said today.
YEREVAN, May 11. /ARKA/. The so-called shadow economic activity among Armenia’s large taxpayers has been cut by more than 15% in the first quarter of the year, the head of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) Vardan Harutyunyan said today.
Speaking at a news conference he said at the end of December 2016, the share of shadow economic activity among large taxpayers was estimated at 48.8%, in March it dropped to 33.2%. In his words, from the end of October 2016 and until April 2017, taxpayers not included in the risk zone paid 9 billion drams or 4.6% more taxes than in the same period in 2016.
He said 264 corporate taxpayers which are in the risk zone, paid 17 billion drams or 30% more taxes in the first three months of 2017.
Armenia’s 1000 largest taxpayers paid over 174.9 billion drams in taxes and customs duties in the first quarter of the year, which is by 11.7% or 18.4 billion drams more than in the first quarter of 2016.
According to Harutyunyan, his agency has found a mechanism for calculating the share of shadow economic activity and will soon unveil it for the public at large.
"Thanks to this mechanism, we have achieved growth in tax revenues without the so-called ‘tax terror," said Harutyunyan, promising that in the future everything possible will be done to reduce further the shadow sector.
According to the ministry of finance, the tax revenues in January-March 2017 amounted to 255 billion drams, an increase of 24.3 billion drams or 10.5% over the same period in 2016. ($ 1 - 484.41 drams). -0-
