YEREVAN, September 17. /ARKA/. The Shirak airport in Armenia’s second-largest city of Gyumri has a new arrivals hall and a renovated runway, which were commissioned at a special ceremony on Thursday.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Suren Papikyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan, as well as Marcelo Wende and Sergey Avetisyan, Director and General Manager of International Airports-Armenia CJSC which runs the Shirak airport in Gyumri and Zvartnots airport in the capital Yerevan.

In a Facebook post, Papikyan said the Shirak airport will become one of the most important guarantors of Gyumri's development. ‘From now on, the airport has the capacity to serve European low-cost flights," the Deputy Prime Minister said.

According to him, the new arrivals hall is almost 900 square meters large, more than twice the size of the old one. It has 8 cabins for passport control and a conveyor belt for luggage. The new hall’s capacity enables to service passengers of one flight during one hour.

The runway, 45 meters wide, now has a length of 3,220 meters. The last time the runway was repaired in 2007. A new drainage system has also been built. --0--
