YEREVAN, June 7. /ARKA/. Small and medium-sized companies in Armenia account only for about 3 per cent of budget revenues, Chief Treasurer Atom Janjughazyan said today. According to him, about 75% of all taxpayers are positioned as small and medium-sized businesses.

The government’s strategy to develop small and medium-sized businesses in  2016-2018, adopted in 2015 October,  has shifted the focus from supporting business start-up and availability of resources to the quality of their work and availability of knowledge and technology

Earlier deputy chairman of the State Revenue Committee Vakhtang Mirumyan argued that the tax burden for SMEs does not exceed 1.6% of their sales turnover.

According to various estimates, SMEs account for around 40% of Armenian GDP. At the same time the data for 2015 shows that small and medium businesses accounted for 2.4% of budget revenues.

According to a USAID-funded study "Finance for Economic Development’, approximately 50% of micro, small and medium enterprises in Armenia have no access to finance. It is believed that there are 70,000 SMEs in Armenia. -0-
