SMEs in Armenia make up 80-90 percent of total number of active taxpayers

Small- and mid-scale businesses in Armenia made up 80 to 90 percent of the total number of active taxpayers in 2016, Hakob Avagyan, chairman of the SME Cooperation Association, said Friday at a news conference.
YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. Small- and mid-scale businesses in Armenia made up 80 to 90 percent of the total number of active taxpayers in 2016, Hakob Avagyan, chairman of the SME Cooperation Association, said Friday at a news conference.
“The same number was also in 2013 and 2014,” he said. “In 2015, the total number of active taxpayers grew, and the share of SMEs in the list reduced to 70%.”
In his words, half of SMEs operates in Yerevan, the remaining number in provinces.
About 60% of SMEs are engaged in trade, and the remaining businesses in production and services.
Hakobyan also added that the share of SMEs in the country’s GDP is 26 to 27 percent in the last three years.
There are 70,000 small and mid-scale enterprises in Armenia, including 58,000 micro and small and 10,000 medium units. --0----
