YEREVAN, August 22. /ARKA/. In 2019 about 85% of Armavir region will be protected by antihail rockets, Armenian Emergencies Minister Hrachya Rostomyan said at a press conference on Wednesday.
He said the reason why the whole territory of the region cannot be protected from hailstorms is that it borders with Turkey. Most of the hail-containing clouds come from neighboring country and due to the lack of diplomatic relations Armenia cannot launch antihail rockets in the border areas.
He said that 126 antihail rockets "AS" and three launchers were purchased, two of which will be installed in the Aragatsotn region and one in Armavir.
Rostomyan also said that an echelon system of protection against hailstorms will be created in Armenia that will consist of antihail grids, gas-stations and anti-hail rockets.
He said also work is underway for creation of a system that will protect 600 thousand hectares of agricultural land from hailstorms in 2019. -0-
