South Caucasus Railway raises wages of 1,645 workers by 10 percent

The South Caucasian Railway, a Russian-run company operating Armenia's railroads, said today it has raised the wages  of some 1.645 employees by 10 percent from July 1 as 'part of a set of measures aimed at improving the efficient use of labor resources, raising the level of social protection of low-paid categories of employees and maintaining the balance between the official salaries of certain professions.'

YEREVAN, July 6. / ARKA /. The South Caucasian Railway, a Russian-run company operating Armenia's railroads, said today it has raised the wages  of some 1.645 employees by 10 percent from July 1 as 'part of a set of measures aimed at improving the efficient use of labor resources, raising the level of social protection of low-paid categories of employees and maintaining the balance between the official salaries of certain professions.'

According to a company press release, the rise applies to 25 categories of workers, including, in particular, drivers of rescue service vehicles, storekeepers, ticket cashiers, station attendants, freight forwarders, couriers and foremen. 

The company has earmarked 105 million drams to pay the wage rise this year.  The average monthly wage in the South Caucasus Railway in May was 194,500 drams. 

The South Caucasus Railways is run by Russian Railways. The concessional agreement was concluded in 2008 for 30 years, with a right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years of operation. -0-
