YEREVAN, February 22. /ARKA/. In January 2013, the South Caucasus Railway cjsc transported 201.2 thousand tons of cargo which is 4.8% more than planned for the first month of the year, the company’s press service reported.
In January rail exports reached 27.5 thousand tons which is 32.2% higher than the target.
Rail freight imports were 71.1 thousand tons which is 1.9% higher than the planned level.
Some 102.6 thousand tons of cargo were transported in local rail traffic over the reporting month (1.3% increase).
“The railway is gradually increasing its key performance indicators, including the volume of freight traffic”, reads the company’s report. The achievements were made owing to flexible tariff policy aimed at reducing transportation costs.
Improved reliability of rail infrastructures helped reduce delivery time, increase reliability of transportation, minimize cargo loss or damage risks, says the report.
The South Caucasus Railway cjsc is a 100% subsidiary of Russian Railways open joint stock company that is operating Armenian railways under a 30-year concession contract signed in 2008. The contract can be extended for another 10 years. –0--
