YEREVAN, October 1. /ARКА/. The head of Armenia's State Property Committee Narek Babayan asked the parliament today to withdraw Energaimpex CJSC and Haypost CJSC from the list of state-owned enterprises, which are to be privatized until 2022
He said it was the former Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources that had earlier asked to withdraw Energaimpex CJSC, which deals with export and import of electricity, from the list of to-be privatized government-owned assets.
According to him, under the Armenian legislation, only a state-owned company can be engaged in such activity as coordination of export and import of electricity. He said Energaimpex has 198 million drams worth assets on its books.
As for Haypost CJSC, Armenia's national postal operator, Babayan said it should not be privatized, since the company provides universal postal services even to the residents of the remotest rural communities, where it is not economically feasible, and its privatization would make these services unavailable to many communities.
"If the postal operator is privatized, the full provision of services throughout the country will become risky. Therefore, it must remain as state-owned asset," Babayan said. He said for an effective management HayPost will be placed under new concession management.
He recalled that HayPost CJSC is currently under concession management, which expired on February 15, 2019, after which it was extended for a year. "We must quickly make a decision to hold a tender for placing the company under new concession management, before the contract expires," said Babayan. --0--
