Tobacco goods cost rose due to tax burden increase- media sources
YEREVAN, January 9. /ARKA/. Prices for tobacco goods in Armenia have risen since early this year, Hayots Ashkharh newspaper reports Wednesday. According to the source, this was caused not by some outer factors but domestic ones.

“Two years ago we knew the domestic prices for cigarettes will surge this year due to some legislative changes adopted at the end of 2011, which imply the gradual balancing of the tax burden for local producers and importers,” the source states.

The cost of some kinds of tobacco goods rose by 15-20 drams.

The changes in tax burden regulations refer to not only local production. From January the fixed payments for the imported cigarettes have also climbed.
The fixed payments jumped from 6250 drams to 7000 drams for 1000 cigarettes produced in Armenia, and from 7500 to 8000 drams for 1000 imported cigarettes.

“As a result of the legislative changes over the past two years, the tax burden on the imported and local cigarettes increased. The fixed payments for imported cigarettes stood at 1000 drams, and for local—1500 drams,” the source stated. ($1-403.87 drams). -0-
