YEREVAN, September 24. /ARKA/. The Union of Armenian Manufacturers and Businessmen (Employers) has issued a statement, in which it expresses willingness to create new jobs and help Syrian Armenians in establishing businesses in Armenia.

In its statement, the union says that Armenians from Syria face difficulties now, and “our people and Armenian businessmen can’t distance themselves from their needs”.

That is why the Union urges Armenian businessman to help Syrian Armenians, who have always assisted Armenia in implementation of development programs here.

The union expresses readiness to provide jobs or create new jobs for Syrian Armenians using its ties and other levers to establish businesses in Armenia or move their businesses here.

It is also ready to organize professional seminars or classes for startup entrepreneurs, to explain the country’s economic laws and make efforts to provide Armenian students from Syria with scholarships.

The union has set up a group for dealing with the problem in cooperation with the Diaspora and foreign ministries as well as with other government and non-government organizations.

The Armenian community in Syria numbers at various estimates 100,000 people. The largest community is in Aleppo (60,000). Armenians also live in Damascus, Latakia and other cities. Clashes between government troops and armed opposition in Syria have forced many Armenians to flee their homes there.

According to Armenian Diaspora ministry, 2,000 Syrian Armenians are in Armenia now. The figures are changing from week to week. -0-
