World Bank and Armenian officials discuss financial accessibility for SMEs

YEREVAN, July 6. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Minister of Economic Development and Investments Artsvik Minasyan had a meeting today a with a World Bank team, led by Isfandyar Zaman Khan, the organization’s Financial and Private Sector Development Leader for Europe and Central Asia.

According to the ministry, the WB team comprised experts Fiona Elizabeth Stewart, Tanya Konidaris and  Anzhela Prigozhina. Armenian Deputy Ministers of Economic Development and Investments Albert Babayan and Avag Avanesyan, as well as other officials took part in the meeting. 

The sides were said to have discussed a set of issues on financial accessibility for small and medium-sized businesses. WB officials were said to report on a set of projects being implemented in concert with the International Monetary Fund. In particular, a 17-member team is conducting an assessment of Armenia’s financial health.

Minister Minasyan spoke about the process of investment reforms, interaction between the state and the private sector. The parties also discussed tax legislation, as well as issues on financial, banking, capital markets, and cybersecurity.

Earlier, on July 4, Minasyan had a meeting with a senior IMF economist Martin Groth, who stated that the IMF was ready to assist Armenia in developing an "impressive" policy for small and medium-sized businesses. -0-
