Yerevan-Batumi trains transport 44,600 people

Seasonal trains traveling between the Armenian capital Yerevan and Batumi, a popular destination of Armenian vacationers on the Black Sea coast in Georgia have transported  44,600 people since June 15 when they began running between the two cities, almost as many as in the same time span last year, the Russian-owned South Caucasus Railways said today.

YEREVAN, September 22. / ARKA /. Seasonal trains traveling between the Armenian capital Yerevan and Batumi, a popular destination of Armenian vacationers on the Black Sea coast in Georgia have transported  44,600 people since June 15 when they began running between the two cities, almost as many as in the same time span last year, the Russian-owned South Caucasus Railways said today.

The company said it has sold until now about 46,000 tickets, by 3.2% more than in 2013. 

In September alone the trains transported more than 5,600 passengers, by 4.4% more than in September of the previous year and sold more than 4,300 tickets (up 4.7%). It also said some 478 tickets were sold via Internet, by 2.5 times more than last year's figures. The train between Yerevan and Batumi will run until October 1. 

The South Caucasus Railways is run by Russian Railways. The concessional agreement was concluded in 2008 for 30 years, with a right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years of operation. -0-
