YEREVAN, April 17. /ARKA/. The clustered development of economy is a timely measure, Rector of the Armenian-Russian (Slavonic) University Armen Darbinyan said today at a conference on the genesis and prospects of the global crisis.

Darbinyan stressed the importance of expanding high-tech capacities, particularly biotechnologies.

He also emphasized the role of backing small-to-medium-scale software companies.

“Armenia’s software development market is estimated at $250mln, which is around one sixth of total exports. This school has been proven successful and me should promote it in foreign markets,” Darbinyan said.

The RAU rector underlined Armenia’s agricultural capacities. “This is a separate cluster that needs a special attention,” he concluded.

Abel Aghanbekyan, academician from the Russian Academy of Sciences, previously said Armenia could develop up to 11 economic clusters, becoming an industrial country. According to his estimates, each of these clusters can inject up to $3bln in the country’s GDP.  –0—
