Armenian road rehabilitation program is recognized one of the best projects of world bank in Europe and Central Asia
YEREVAN, June 8. /ARKA/. Program of modernization of vitally important roads was recognized one of 12 consumers’ competition by the World Bank, press-service of Armenian Ministry of Transport and Communications informs.
Olivier le Ber, Head of Regional Infrastructure program awarded certificate of honor to Manuk Vardanyan, Armenian Minister of Transport and Communications.
The program was developed, discussed and approved within seven weeks and currently it is coming to its end.
Temporary job places are created in rural communities in the process of road rehabilitation, accessibility of main social services аre increased and 150 km roads from envisaged 250 km are already reconstructed.
During the meeting the parties discussed issues related to implementation of the second phase of road rehabilitation program. It envisages to construct 190 km roads.
At the end of the meeting the parties discussed security issues of constructed roads and bridges.
According to the agreement concluded on February 26, 2009 between Armenia and International Development Association of World Bank on funding vitally important roads Armenia will receive credit in the amount of 16.1 million SDR.
The aim of the agreement is to support reconstruction activities of vitally important roads and their separate sections, as well as creation of temporary job places in construction sphere.
