On Thursday, Armenian government approved a scheme of bringing transportation links closer to the free trade zone and the international logistical centre near Zvartnots Airport.

YEREVAN, November 3. /ARKA/. On Thursday, Armenian government approved a scheme of bringing transportation links closer to the free trade zone and the international logistical centre near Zvartnots Airport.

The program is estimated to cost $40 million.

Transport and Telecommunication Minister Manuk Vardanyan, speaking at the government’s regular meeting, said that the first objective is to build a logistical center. In his words, feasibility study is under way now. The center will be included in the international logistical center of TRACECA in the future.

“The second objective is to construct a railway to improve both passenger and cargo transportation,” the minister said. “In particular, the 3.7-kilometer railway that operates now will be lengthened to 7.5 kilometers.”

He said that preliminary cost of this project is $5 million.

The third objective is construction of a new road circumventing Argavand and Parakar near the airport. This road will connect the airport to the existing trunk road and North-South highway that is under construction now.

A few schemes of establishing free economic zones are being discussed now.

First of them will be established in Mars works’ territory and near Zvartnots Airport.

The concept of a free economic zone at Zvartnots airport territory was approved by the government in 2008 November. -0---
