Armenia’s national debt beyond comfort zone – newspaper
YEREVAN, June 22. /ARKA/. Armenia’s national debt is beyond the so called comfort zone, IMF permanent representative in Armenia Teresa Dabas Sanchez told Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Time) newspaper.

The government should take measures to reduce national debt to GDP ratio, she said.

Earlier, the head of treasury Atom Janjughazyan said Armenia had completed the year 2014 with the national debt amounting to $4.4 billion, and a debt to GDP ratio at 40.4%. According to his projections, the national debt of the country will reach $4.8-4.9 billion by the end of this year.

In making decisions the IMF will consider the total amount of the country’s debt, including the government of Armenia and the central bank’s liabilities, Sanchez said in commenting the parliament discussion about excluding the central bank’s debt from ‘national debt’ definition.

The permanent representative said IMF will release its next projection of Armenia’s economy in September. Certain improvements in Armenia’s economic performance can be expected due to some stabilization seen in the Russian economy, she said. –0—
