Armenia surpassesl CIS countries, Turkey and Iran on "Index of Economic Freedom"
YEREVAN, September 23. /ARKA/. Armenia ranked 33rd out of 165 countries on the 'Economic Freedom of the World: 2021 Annual Report' by Canada's Fraser Institute released on Thursday.
According to the report, Armenia surpassed all CIS countries, including Moldova (57th place), Kazakhstan (58th), Kyrgyzstan (75th), Tajikistan (100th), Russia (104th), Belarus (109th), Ukraine (112th) and Azerbaijan (122th).
Armenia was also ahead of Turkey (101st), Iran (160th) and such developed countries as Belgium (44th) and France (45th). Of the regional countries, Armenia was surpassed only by Georgia (25th).
The leaders of the rating are Singapore, Hong Kong, Switzerland, while the outsiders are Venezuela, Zimbabwe and Syria.
The index measures the extent to which countries' policies and institutions support economic freedom. The cornerstones of economic freedom are personal choice, voluntary exchange, freedom of market access and competition, and security of person and private property.
Data for 2021 were used to compile the rankings. -0-
