Natural gas consumption in Armenia is growing faster and faster and has already come close to pre-crisis metrics, Karen Movsisyan ArmRosgazprom CJSC deputy CEO for finance and economy, told journalists today on the sidelines of the regular session of the Committee on Legislation, Banks and Finance of the European Business Congress.

YEREVAN, April 5. /ARKA/.
He said 1.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas were consumed in the country in 2012 against 2 billion in 2008.
“You know about the 2008 global economic recession, after which natural gas consumption sharply fell – 30% decline for two years, and now it starts growing again,” he said.
Movsisyan said that gas consumption directly depends on things in Armenia’s economy.
“This fast growth in gas consumption gives us grounds for optimism, and we hope it won’t slow down,” he said.
The regular session was held in the Armenian resort of Tsakhkadzor. It was focused on management of risks amid the world energy market transformation.
ArmRosgazprom CJSC, established in 1997, enjoys the sole right for importing and distributing Russian natural gas in Armenia.
The company’s shareholders are Russian Gazprom OJSC and the Armenian government.
Russia conveys its gas to Armenia through Georgia’s territory. -0-
