Impacts of industry monopolization on rigidity of prices in Armenia needs specification, Hossein Samiei, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission Chief to Armenia, said Thursday at a news conference in Yerevan.

YEREVAN, April 7. /ARKA/. Impacts of industry monopolization on rigidity of prices in Armenia needs specification, Hossein Samiei, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission Chief to Armenia, said Thursday at a news conference in Yerevan.
He said that there is industry monopolization problem in Armenia. He said he didn't know how much it influence rigidity of prices and added that the mater needs researches.
Samiei said he would not be surprised if it becomes known that some sectors are impacted by industry monopolization.
Therefore, he called on the Armenian government to expand integration with foreign companies and enterprises saying that this will have favorable impacts on competition.
At the same time, Samiei didn't agree that outside prices impacted slightly domestic prices. He said inflation in Armenia is now negative, and this is mainly due to prices for imports.
He stressed that Artsvik Minasyan, new economy minister, and Artak Shaboyan, head of Armenia's antitrust agency, assured him that they intended to take certain measures for creating competition environment. The IMF representative expressed hope that this intention will be put into the reality.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, consumer prices in the country went 2% down in March 2016, compared with the same month a year earlier. ---0---
