Iran-Armenia gas pipeline's capacity not fully utilized - Pashinyan
YEREVAN, October 26. /ARKA/. The capacity of the Iran-Armenia natural gas pipeline is not fully utilized, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"Only a part of its capacity is being utilized. I should note with pleasure that we have recently concluded an agreement with our colleagues from Iran to extend the gas-for-electricity program until 2030," Pashinyan said speaking in the parliament on Wednesday.
He also noted that steps have been taken to address some problems in the agreements in order to ensure stable supplies.
Pashinyan also noted that the issue of diversification of energy supplies is on the agenda of the government, stressing the importance of the market liberalization process.
In August 2023, Armenia and Iran signed a document on extending the gas for electricity swap agreement and increasing gas imports to Armenia and electricity exports to Iran. The agreement is extended until 2030.
As part of gas for electricity swap deal Armenia has been receiving natural gas from Iran since 2009, which is converted into electricity here and is shipped back to Iran- 3 kWh of electricity for one cubic meters of natural gas. -0—
