YEREVAN, April 12. /ARKA/. Karen Karapetyan, acting prime minister of Armenia, speaking Wednesday at a Q&A session in the parliament, declared that the country will enjoy significant economic success in the next few years.
Admitting the fact that the 7.5% economic growth claimed by the Armenian authorities in 2017 has absolutely no effect on the country citizens, he said that such economic growth looks promising for every economic system and lays grounds for hope.
In his words, economic activity has grown 8.6% in the first two months of this year exceeding the indicators of the same period of the previous year.
Karapetyan also said that in the government budget for 2018, the economic growth is projected at 4.5%, but if no adverse developments occur at international markets, then the Armenian economy will continue its upward movement and the country will have a higher-than-projected economic growth.
In his opinion, the 2030 strategic development program will fuel economic growth and the country’s citizens will be happy about the indicator the government has projected.
Karapetyan said that the economic growth recorded in 2017 still doesn’t allow the government to solve all the problems Armenia faces.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, Armenia had a 7.5% economic growth in 2017 and GDP amounted to AMD 5 580.1 billion or around $11.5 billion.
Karapetyan said that even a 100% growth would be not enough to solve all problems.
He said that Armenia’s economic growth in 2017 was highest in the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran.
He believes that the government-recorded growth was due also to the existing political configuration.
The acting premier also said that “not only our ability, but also the region’s potential should be taken into account”. --0---
