Over 150 people convicted last year on corruption charges

Armenian courts considered last year 129 corruption cases passing sentences on 158 people, including 68 officials, deputy prosecutor general Armen Danielyan said at an enlarged meeting of the board of the prosecutor's office on Friday.

YEREVAN, February 24. /ARKA/. Armenian courts considered last year 129 corruption cases passing sentences on 158 people, including 68 officials, deputy prosecutor general Armen Danielyan said at an enlarged meeting of the board of the prosecutor's office on Friday.

According to him, out of 158 convicted 102 people were imprisoned, 41 were sentenced to paying penalties, and the rest were subjected to other punishments. Danielyan said 395 corruption cases were opened last year, by 10 cases more than in 2010. 

He also reported that the total amount of damage caused by all examined cases was 2.784 billion drams, of which 2.765 billion drams were damages were incurred to the state. He said the growing number of exposed corruption crimes was due to active work of law enforcement bodies. ($1-389.34 drams). M.M. -0-
