Premier: fast industrial growth to secure higher GDP in Armenia
YEREVAN, June 20. /ARKA/. Fast industrial growth allows the government to reconsider the earlier projected 4.6% GDP growth, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said Wednesday at an extraordinary session of the National Assembly.

On Monday, President Serzh Sargsyan instructed the Cabinet to ensure a seven-percent GDP growth in 2012.

“The program that we presented to you today will be our guideline for the next five years,” the premier said. “It means we set more ambitious tasks for ourselves, and we have grounds for that.”

He said that the country’s economy is already on the track of recovery.

“We had 2.1% GDP growth in 2010 and 4.7% growth in 2011, while now we have 6% economic growth, which prompts us to reconsider this indicator”

Sargsyan stressed that economic growth is first of all based on industrial growth.

“Today we have a 14% industrial growth and a more diversified economy,” he said. “The government’s anti-crisis program has produced positive results.” M.V.-0---
