YEREVAN, January 15, /ARKA/. Prices of essential goods in Armenia after the New Year and Christmas holidays have dropped slightly, but have not returned to their previous level, Karen Chilingaryan, head of an NGO called "Center for Consumer Advice" told reporters today.

He said the prices of some products, for example dairy products, have increased by 20-35%, although the price of milk has not changed. Prices of vegetables and fruits have gone up by 10-15%, the prices of confectioneries have increased by 15-20%, while prices of alcoholic beverages and meat have remained unchanged.

"I do not believe the situation in the Armenian economy will improve, as the economic crisis in Russia will continue to affecting Armenia’s economy. Especially now, when we are in the common economic space. The drop in remittances from Armenian labor migrants is another negative factor affecting the economy,” he said.

According to the latest data from the Central Bank, private remittances to Armenia for non-commercial purposes in  January-October 2014 dropped by almost 2 percent from the year before to $1.484.7 billion.-0-
