YEREVAN, February 11. / ARKA /. The South Caucasus Railways (SCR), a Russian–run company, operating Armenia's railroads, was 27th in the list of 1000 largest corporate taxpayers in 2014 having paid a total of 4.04 billion drams in various taxes, according to the State Revenue Committee (SRC). The company had improved its standing in the list by four notches from the previous year.
"From 2008 to 2014 SCR paid more than 25.6 billion drams in taxes, which is twice its predecessor- the Armenian Railways- had paid in six years before it was handed to the state-owned Russian Railways in 2008,' SCR said in a press release.
The company said the rise in paid taxes was due partly to a significant increase in wages. The average wage is now 196,600 drams, up from 74,200 drams in 2008. The company has also invested more than 100.8 billion drams in the upgrading of the facility.
According to the State Revenue Committee, the 1000 largest taxpayers paid last year more than 700.5 billion drams in various taxes, a 5.3 percent rise from 2013.
The South Caucasus Railways is run by Russian Railways. The concessional agreement was concluded in 2008 for 30 years, with a right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years of operation. ($ 1 - 478.85 drams) -0-
