Ten main theses on state of Armenia's mining industry, voiced by head of Union of Miners and Metallurgists

ARKA news agency presents the main theses voiced by Vardan Janyan:
- Azerbaijan's true motivation is to weaken an important branch of Armenian industry; Azerbaijan uses all means of hybrid warfare, the economic strangulation of both Armenia and Artsakh is as much its goal as any other.
- Azerbaijan's actions could result in the loss of 10-20% of Armenia's economic growth due to the negative impact on the mining industry
- If 10 years ago the mining industry of Armenia accounted for only 2.6% of the country's GDP, its share in the GDP has grown today to about 10%
- The mining and metallurgical industry of Armenia is fully export-oriented, accounting for 30-40% of total exports.
- A significant part of foreign direct investment (FDI) is channeled into this sector, which provides jobs, helps solve social problems and enhance territorial development; the sector employs about 60,000 workers.
- The risks of the mining industry are managed by the state, companies and all stakeholders
-The state, in turn, implements policies to mitigate and eliminate risks by developing appropriate strategies, laws and regulations and monitoring their implementation.
- The Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine is currently undergoing technical upgrades to increase production capacity from the current 22 million tons per year to 40 million tons in order to create a mineral resource base for the copper smelter that the company plans to build in Armenia.
- There are intentions to build a refinery in Armenia, which will create an opportunity to switch from the production of 70% gold doré to pure gold bullion.
- Often representatives of the mining sector deliberately choose higher production costs in an effort to minimize environmental risks. -0-
