YEREVAN, March 22. /ARKA/. This year is going to be the most abundant in flood water over the past five years in Armenia, Levon Azizyan, the head of the Hydrological Service of Ministry of Emergency Situations, told a news conference today. According to him, this year the rivers will have two times more flood water than in 2015.
"In most of the rivers the volume of spring flood water is expected in the range of 100-120% of the norm, while the rivers in the basin of Lake Sevan may have 150% of the norm. In case of a sharp rise in temperature and heavy rains the rivers Debed, Pambak, Aghstev, Araks, Akhuryan , Hrazdan, Azat, Arpa and the rivers flowing into Sevan are likely to cause flooding,," said Azizyan.
He refrained from making concrete forecasts saying they are possible only 3-4 days ahead of a flooding. However, he ruled out the risk of flooding to be caused by the River of Getar, flowing across Yerevan recalling that the last time the flood happened in Yerevan was in 1946.
"We expect the level of Lake Sevan to rise by 55-60 cm in April-June. He added also that the water reservoirs in Akhuryan, Azat and Marmarik will be filled completely and others by 70-85%. -0-
