YEREVAN, January 12. /ARKA/. The trade between Armenia and Georgia in 2022 soared by 70% to over $1 billion, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said at a regular meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Yerevan today, the press service of the Armenian government reported.

"This is indeed a long-awaited result. Armenia has become Georgia's 6th largest trade partner," Garibashvili said.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recalled that the trade between the two countries in the first 11 months of 2019 was $481.7 million.

'I think this figure is understandably even more important, because for both you and us 2019 was a very successful year, perhaps the most successful of previous years," Pashinyan said.

According to official numbers, both Armenia and Georgia recorded double-digit economic growth in 2022.

"I also think our interaction and good relations have played a very important role in this," Pashinyan said.

He noted that Armenia also attaches great importance to railway transport cooperation and the expansion of multimodal transportation, including the organization of maritime transportation.

"For Armenia, Georgia, as a transit country, is also of great importance in terms of reliable and secure supply of energy resources, communications and telecommunications. In 2022, some 365 million kWh of electricity was exported from Armenia to Georgia, which is more than the exports from Armenia in the previous 10 years combined,' he was quoted as saying.

The meeting was said to discuss a set of issues related to deepening and expanding cooperation between the two countries in such areas as trade, energy, infrastructure, industry, tourism, education and culture.

Prime Ministers of Armenia and Georgia Nikol Pashinyan and Irakli Garibashvili signed an agreement on mutual visa-free travels. From now on the citizens of Armenia and Gerogia will be able to cross each other's borders with ID cards. -0-
