YEREVAN, November 14. / ARKA /. Unfair competition affects the quality of Armenia-made products, Gagik Makaryan, the chairman of the National Union of Employers, told a news conference today called to mark the World Quality Day that was introduced by the United Nations in 1990 to increase worldwide awareness of the important contribution that quality makes towards a nation's and an organization’s growth and prosperity.
Makaryan said solution to this problem requires a government-designed strategy that Armenia does not have.
He said measures taken by the State Food Safety Service and the State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition to supervise the quality of local products and make sure they comply with international standards do not produce the desired effect.
According to Makaryan, the government strategy should be aimed also at improving the literacy of consumers regarding the quality of goods they buy. According to him, consumers must have knowledge about basic precautions, such as checking the expiration date of the products.
"Without state strategy we will not get high quality products and services as there are always producers that will violate the quality standards,’ he said..-0-
