YEREVAN, August 31. /ARКА/. During a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that his government's project the Crossroads of Peace is ideally suited to be connected with China's One Belt, One Road initiative, which Armenia was among the first to officially endorse.

On Sunday morning, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan arrived in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025, which is set to take place on Sunday and Monday.

He further emphasized that Armenia reaffirms its commitment to the One China principle, as reported by the government's press service.

Pashinyan indicated that the discussions held today would lead to new developments and enhancements in high-level bilateral relations.

The Prime Minister expressed optimism regarding a steady increase in trade and economic collaboration, as well as the execution of new joint investment initiatives. The head of state highlighted the government's keen interest in broadening investment projects involving Chinese enterprises in Armenia.

Following the meeting, both parties declared the establishment of a strategic partnership between Armenia and China, which was formalized through a joint statement.

During their discussions, the leaders of the two nations also underscored the significance of fostering cooperation in various fields, including science, education, culture, tourism, information, metrology, and others.

Pashinyan reiterated Armenia's aspiration to become a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. An agreement was made to enhance collaboration within the SCO.

According to Armstat, in the first half of 2025, the trade turnover between Armenia and China reached $1.2 billion, reflecting a 15% decline compared to the same timeframe in 2024.

Exports from Armenia to China totaled $288.3 million, marking a decrease of 59.6%, while imports nearly hit $646 million, showing an increase of 2.3%.-0-
