YEREVAN, May 30. /ARKA/ The scale of flood disasters in Armenia is enormous, there is a need to involve a large number of departments in eliminating the consequences of the floods in Lori and Tavush, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan said.

“On the other hand, there is a need to develop programs and they should provide stimulating and facilitating benefits” Sanosyan said at a government session, speaking on the situation in the north of the country.

The Minister reported about the damage to the railroad, M4 and M6 highways, as well as a section of Noyemberyan-Bagratashen road, 20 bridges, water supply system has been seriously damaged.

He noted that it is also necessary to develop methods of providing compensations and solving urban planning and environmental issues.
Sanosyan also said that the evacuated citizens are provided with food and water: they mostly return to their flooded houses and try to help in the reconstruction works.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in his turn, raised the question whether there is a recovery plan in the territories. In addition, Pashinyan pointed out the need to check how the flooding affected the seismic resistance of buildings. “We have been working with our colleagues from the town planning committee since the first day. At the beginning, our attention was focused on bridges to assess what condition they are in and whether it is possible to move on bridges that have not collapsed,” the minister said.

Sanosyan also said that there is an understanding of how many buildings and multi-storey houses were flooded and noted that the financial damage caused by the disaster is being assessed. -0-
