A man and his wife were killed in an explosion that collapsed a house in Erebuni neighborhood in Yerevan, Interior Ministry's spokesman Narek Sargsyan said.

YEREVAN, February 5. /ARKA/. A man and his wife were killed in an explosion that collapsed a house in Erebuni neighborhood in Yerevan, Interior Ministry's spokesman Narek Sargsyan said.

Earlier it was reported that rescuers pulled out an 86-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man from under the ruins and rushed them to a hospital.

The explosion occurred at 11:36 today morning. According to a preliminary version, it was caused by a natural gas leak.

The condition of one of the hospitalized persons is assessed by doctors as medium severity, while the other one is in stable serious condition.

A criminal case has been opened under the Criminal Code article "Violation of fire safety rules or requirements, which caused the death of a person or other serious consequences by negligence". -0-
