Iranian national arrested in Armenia for attempted opium shipment to Australia
YEREVAN, August 29. /ARKA/. An Iranian citizen has been arrested in Armenia while attempting to send a package containing 233 grams of opium to Australia, the Armenian State Revenue Committee (SRC) reported on Thursday.
The SRC reported receiving information that the individual had smuggled drugs into Armenia and intended to ship them abroad. In collaboration with the National Security Service (NSS), anti-smuggling officers inspected an international courier package at a HayPost branch in Kapan. Upon examination, they discovered two leather bags with dark brown substances resembling opium hidden in the linings and compartments, weighing a total of 233 grams.
A protocol was drafted, and the Iranian national was detained on suspicion of drug smuggling. The case has been handed over to investigators for further processing.
