YEREVAN, June 4. /ARKA/. Armenia’s customs officers prevented a large batch of diamonds from being smuggled into the country, the Armenian State Revenue Committee reported on Tuesday.
An Armenian citizen who arrived from the United Arab Emirates was recently detained at Yerevan’s Zvartnots airport during a customs inspection. A total of 29 undeclared valuable stones, suspectedly diamonds, were found in his luggage and his wallet.
Since the customs value of these items is higher than 8 million AMD, the individual was detained by the anti-smuggling department of the State Revenue Committee and then transferred to the Investigative Committee of Armenia, where he was charged with smuggling, a felony.
