YEREVAN, June 14. /ARKA/. President of France Nicolas Sarkozy expressed readiness to make efforts to strengthen the Armenian-French friendship, runs the gratifying message of the French President to the Armenian Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I as a respond to the latter’s congratulation on being elected to the post of France’s President.

“I will do the utmost to strengthen the century-old ties lying on the basis of the Armenian-French friendship and will protect the social values that fasten this friendship,” runs Sarkozy’s message.

“You, as well as all the Armenians living in all the parts of the world, can be sure that our attitude to the Armenian nation will remain unchanged,” Sarkozy said.

He said that he is touched by the statements of the Catholicos concerning the French President’s position on the Genocide issue.

He said that the recognition of the Genocide in Turkey is a moral obligation.  “You can be sure that I will go on with the decisiveness to express my opinion and act in that direction,” Sarkozy’s message said.

“The obligation is connected with the struggle that France has the honor to conduct in larger frames for the sake of people,” he said.

The residence of the Armenian Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia is located in the Lebanese city of Antelias. In his message Sarkozy points out that one of the pre-election promises was stable support of Lebanon.

“In the name of century-old friendship, France will always protect Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity,” Sarkozy said.

“It will be a great happiness and honor for me to meet You during Your visit to France or my visit to Lebanon,” the message runs. L.M. –0--
