ARMENIA EXPECTS FURTHER COOPERATION WITH UN IN POVERTY REDUCTION, PREMIER STATES

The RA Government expects deeper cooperation with the UN in poverty reduction, RA Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan stated at his meeting with UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, UN Coordinator Consuello Vidal.
YEREVAN, July 11. /ARKA/. The RA Government expects deeper cooperation with the UN in poverty reduction, RA Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan stated at his meeting with UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, UN Coordinator Consuello Vidal.
The RA Premier pointed out that the RA Government intends to revise its strategic program of poverty reduction and expects closer and more active cooperation with the UN, as the poverty reduction program is one of the most important goals of the UN in this millennium.
The public relations department, RA Government, reports that the RA Premier made a high appraisal of the UN agencies and of the UNDS office in Armenia, as well as of effective cooperation with the Armenian Government.
The RA Premier also stressed the importance of organizing a public discussion in the process of revision of the poverty reduction program. He pointed out that the program must be well-grounded and specified for its implementation to be feasible, which will increase public confidence in the program.
The RA Premier pointed out the necessity for the Armenian Government to reinforce its efforts to realize a number of most important and fundamental documents - a program of the RA Government, National Security Strategy ands Strategic Program of Poverty Reduction. In this context he stressed that any governmental document must be in harmony with the goals of the programs.
In her turn, Consuello Vida assured the RA Premier that the UN will continue cooperation with Armenia in implementing two programs of Armenia’s development.
She pointed out that the program of action for the next five years approved by the RA Government is in harmony with the UN’s priorities, which opens up new prospects for further cooperation between the RA Government and the UN agencies working in Armenia. P.T. –0--
